This is a rare mock-up for a Mickey Mouse opening title card that was going to be used once the conversion to United Artists was made, after Walt had his falling out with Columbia Pictures in 1932. It is a stencil painted mock-up in three colors on a 2-peg hole 12" x 10" background board. Joseph Schenck, Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse, and United Artists are all mentioned. This concept Title Card piece tells an awful lot about the Walt Disney Studio circa 1932. Handling, surface wear, and water staining along the left side; Fair condition. An important piece of Disney Studio history. From 1930 to 1932, Columbia pictures agreed to directly distribute Walt Disney's new Silly Symphony cartoon series as well as his Mickey Mouse shorts. When the two parties had a falling out, Walt Disney signed a distribution contract with United Artists that lasted from 1932 to 1937. United Artists was founded by upper-echelon filmmakers D.W. Griffith, Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks. It was during Walt's time with United Artists that both Flowers and Trees and The Three Little Pigs shorts were released. Both of these shorts won Academy Awards. The president of United Artists in 1932 was Joseph M. Schenck (1876 - 1961). He would go on to be the co-founder of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
